Swarm of robot boats

All the bots are using RPi’s and talk to eachother to get a job done. Interesting build. Swarm of Robot Boats Coming To An Ocean Near You Soon

A cheap wifi controlled water valve

Oh I need to build one of these.  I was adapting the $40 battery operated timers, this looks much better (and cheaper) build. http://makezine.com/projects/wifi-water-valve/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=%24{feed}&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+%24{makezineonline}+%28%24{MAKE}%29&utm_content=%24{GoogleReader}

Nice idea to teach kids about solar energy (Thermal)

Nice idea, the students build some simple solar thermal heaters, and record the results of heating up water. http://www.instructables.com/id/Kids-Solar-Water-Heater/

Interesting Hydroponic system

Interesting build…looks like $40 in and $20 for the pump, and another $10 for the tubing (Author puts the cost at $70).  I think this could be made cheaper, but still, nice build and portable. http://www.instructables.com/id/Mini-NFT-Hydroponic-System/

3D print a peristalic pump to feed people

The pump is to help feed a person whom is on a liquid based diet and can’t feed themselves.  Nice build but I wonder how long it will last on just plastic. http://hackaday.com/2015/11/10/3d-printed-peristalic-pump-has-impressive-capabilities/

Simple electronic water shut off valve

This is pretty funny, instead of a mechanical float switch, the author uses an interesting setup to turn the water on/off for horses.  I would recommend using a voltage regulator for the ATiny so you don’t suck down the battery … Continue reading

OK the gear bit is cool, but the rollers for sand castles are better

The geared pattern builder for making patterns in the sand is neat, but what I really like is the rollers the guy built for adding texture to the walls of a sandcastle. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20150913-3d-printed-sand-castle-tools-made-with-math-to-play-with-math.html

Nice build on rainbarrels

Found this article in my notes from…err 4 years ago.  Never got around to posting it till now. Its a nice simple build for a rain barrel.  Only concern would be BPA issues, but if you are just watering the … Continue reading

Building an underwater robot

The frame for the robot is pretty basic PVC stuff.  The interesting part is how the author waterproofs the motors (from standard DC motors to waterproof ones). http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-an-Underwater-robot/

Building a Solar Thermal Heater

Been thinking about this as my pool is getting cold already.  First build is one I have seen in the past with irrigation pipe.  Basically you make a big circle with the stuff.  Second build is definately the poor makes … Continue reading
