I was thinking of building a bluetooth oriented garage door opener and then an app to open it. When it dawned on me that someone else might have done it already. I know there are allot of arduino based solutions, and some other solutions, but I am looking at $50 and up in parts.
I can buy commerical versions…at well over a $100. So…
I stumbled upon BTMate, which basically takes the headset receiver apart and puts it in line with the garage door opener, a 5 volt USB power supply, and has an app. The best part, you can buy a “kit” for $25 (I think another 10 in shipping). Which is cheaper than if I got the parts myself. Only downside is the author seems to be out of parts. Still its something worth keeping an eye on.
