My CNC rebuild, part 1

OK I finally got the time to start putting my homebrewed CNC back together.  Times have changed since I took it apart and it sat in the corner.  First up was the Pentium 4 I originally was using for a gcode controller was toast.  I got an atom board (Intel board) which had IDE controller and was pretty low power.  First up, converting a router box to be a case.  That is still ongoing.  Second up was installing LinuxCNC, should be easy right.  HAHAHA.  The video had all these waves in it and at first I thought the LCD monitor was going, swapped that out and same problem.  So, video problem it is.  Some googling turned up alot of issues with the SiS onboard video card on a bunch of different atom boards similar to mine.  But no good solutions for Ubuntu 10.04, many for 9/8 but they did not work for 10.04.  So…tried the drivers for linux from Intel, ended up having to reinstall from that experiment.  Finally stumbled on this post (below).  Followed the directions and I am up and running, kindof..
